TEMPLE B'NAI OR
The warm Reform congregation in the heart of Morris County

VISION STATEMENT

The Vision of Temple B’nai Or is to be an extended Jewish Family for all of our members, providing opportunities for individuals and families – from young children to sage adults:

  • to grow in Jewish learning and living (Torah),
  • to worship God in the beauty of holiness (Avodah),
  • and to work together as God’s partners in transforming the world as God dreams it to be (G’millut Chasadim).

To these ends, we strive:

  • to teach and learn Torah as a living tradition, engendering Jewish identity and commitment in our youth, providing meaning and purpose to persons of all ages;
  • to worship God, the Eternal Spirit around us and within us, through music which inspires and draws us together in joyous community, and with liturgy which allows the mind, the heart and the spirit to soar;
  • to embody the call of the prophets of Israel, “To be a light unto the nations,” by working for social justice and improving the moral and spiritual life of our community and our world.

We are dedicated to the ideals and values of Reform Judaism which calls the individual to find his/her own Jewish observance and spirituality through study, worship and commitment.

We strive to nurture each Jewish household as a small sanctuary where our tradition lives and where God’s Presence dwells. And as we walk through the joys and sorrows of life’s journey, we celebrate with - and are comforted by - each other, the wisdom of Judaism and God’s love and compassion.

We are dedicated to strengthening our ties with the Jewish community and the State of Israel and to supporting Progressive Judaism in Israel and throughout the world.

We welcome the intermarried and their families and those who might seek to become a part of the Jewish People and Faith.

Our arms are open to all those of Jewish background - regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation or marital status - who would join us in our vision.

We are B’nai Or, the Children of Light.

“O House of Jacob,
Come, let us walk by the light of the Eternal!”
